Life is never fair. Life can't give two good things at once because it fears that you'll be too overconfident, arrogant and will lose focus and won't be prepared for whatever sh*t will come at you throughout the day. Life can sometimes (or maybe all the time) be cruel to you because that's Life! You can't be lucky all the time and you certainly can't avoid the bad things. We need it sometimes. How do you expect to mature? Life is an hourglass: full and spacious at the top but as you get sinked down, Life squeezes and gives you a hard time for a short while (or probably long, depending on how much sand is in there) until you reach the bottom, where you slowly recover yourself with each fall. Life is never fair. It is just.
